Our Heritage Centre

This page you will get a insight into the the inside of our Heritage Centre. The Heritage Centre is a whole story of it's own. It was origanly the town hall back in 1867. It later became the Police Station, then on to being the Fire Hall and lastly the heritage Centre. On the Map of 1862 Chesterville, although it already has it's name on the map, was known as Winchester Post office. Winchester was known as West Winchester. The entire area was basicly reffered to as the Winchester, until the rail road build their stations along the line. At this point, as far as I can tell, Chesterville realy became Chesterville. The first train pulled into Chesterville in 1898 with 5 cars to uinload silo grain. When did Chesterville first become settled you may ask? From a book written by O. D. Casselman called The Time That Was The Histroy of Chesterville and District. it appears to have been settled my Marianne Duncan, daughter of Captain Richard Duncun, the first official place in authority over Dundas. The realy big question that I have, and if anyone knows the answere please feel free to cantact me and let me know. Who gave Chesterville it's name and how did the name get choosen? I have just joined the Historical Society of Chesterville and as I learn more of it's past I will try and give you a on-line insight it this very interesting village.
